Specialist certificate in Psychiatry originated from or recognized in an EU-country. In the latter case, also three years of work in the EU-country has to be justified.

➡️ Description of the departments and the jobs

1. Round-the-clock care

Work during the day as a specialist doctor in a psychiatric inpatient ward with 10 beds. The department's mission is aimed at psychiatric intensive care (PIVA) but also general psychiatric conditions. A large part of the care includes compulsory treatment and psychosis care. As a specialist doctor, the doctor makes rounds together with a nurse and/or carer. There are also assistant doctors placed in the department. We attach great importance to the suitability to supervise/be a good support to assistant medical colleagues/ST doctors in the role of on- call/department doctor.

The job is a full-time position where you usually work 5 days and a total of 40 hours per week, 8am-5pm with a 60-minute unpaid lunch break.

In addition to departmental work, standby duty is included.

The emergency line is staffed all weekdays by specialist doctors between 4.30pm and 8am and on weekends, Fridays from 4.30pm until Monday morning 8am. The standby sessions are 16.30-08. Saturday and Sunday 08-08 (24 hours a day) or 08.00-20.00/20.00-08.00 (a 12-hour shift, either day or night). The frequency of preparedness sessions varies, but usually it can be about 1-2 sessions per week.

2. Round-the-clock care/psychosis clinic

Work during the day as a specialist doctor in a psychiatric inpatient ward with 13 beds. The department's mission is aimed at psychotic conditions but also general psychiatric conditions, and it also includes compulsory care in a closed care ward. As a specialist doctor, the doctor makes rounds together with a nurse and/or carer.

There are also assistant doctors placed in the department. The closed care ward and the psychosis clinic work closely together and belong to the same unit. This means that as a doctor you have a varied assignment where you sometimes also work at the reception with planned reception visits. It may involve follow-ups of known psychotic patients, but it may also involve assessment of newly diagnosed patients. We attach great importance to the suitability to supervise/be a good support to assistant medical colleagues/ST doctors in the role of on-call/department doctor.

3. General psychiatric clinics throughout the region

Daytime work between 8-17 with planned reception visits. The clinics deal with general psychiatric conditions such as anxiety, depression, personality syndrome, psychosis, co- morbidity, etc. Specialist doctors attend/lead team conferences, referral reviews and work consultatively with other care providers/other staff. The receptions also have emergency services where specialists can see patients in a more acute condition and assess whether a medical certificate needs to be issued, assess whether a patient needs admission to our inpatient care or needs another type of follow-up. In some clinic, standby duty is included. We attach great importance to the suitability to supervise/be a good support to junior medical colleagues/ST doctors in the role of back-up/reception doctor.

By agreement.
Generally, a specialist having licence to practice in Sweden, with proper skills in Swedish and with ability for being able to work independently (strong C1-level) earns 80-110.000 SEK.

However, during the introductory period and until you will not be able to work independently and will not have solid language skills, the salary temporarily will be lower.

About Psychiatry in the region

Psychiatry is assigned with offering high-quality psychiatric diagnostics and treatment.

This is done by using methods that follow science and proven experience. The approach towards the patient must be characterized by respect, professionalism, and high ethical awareness.
The clinic's target group is people aged 18 and over with psychiatric illness or mental illness of such a degree that it requires specialist psychiatric expertise.

The clinic must offer specialist psychiatric care and treatment according to HSL (Health and Medical Care Act) and LPT (Act on Compulsory Psychiatric Care)

The hospital is one of three hospitals in the region. It cooperates with other health care in the region, and the University Hospital of Umeå.

- During the personal visit which is part of the interview process, the cost of travel and accommodation is financed.

- 6-7 months long, free Swedish course, financial support during the course (the amount is topic of negotiation)

➡️ Extra benefits

In this region, one can receive further benefits, too. These are means-tested benefits, so it is individually judged which benefit can be received (none, one of them or both) for an individual.

- In connection with moving from another location, a reasonable relocation allowance can be issued. The region pays a moving company after having received at least 2-3 different quotes from different moving companies from which the region will choose the one it will pay.

- Start-up grants also can be issued up to SEK 40,000 (excluding social security contributions). The grant is paid out in four instalments during a two-years’ period. A repayment obligation will be regulated in a contract, in the event that the employment period set in the Guarantee of Employment will not be completed
