Description of the work at the actual clinic
Description of the clinic
The Thoracic-Vascular Clinic has 235 employees, including 45 doctors with specialist competencies in Cardiopulmonary and Vascular Surgery and Thoracic Anaesthesia and Intensive Care. Many of the nurses are specialist nurses in Surgery, Anaesthesia and Intensive Care.
We have an operation department with four operating rooms and work at the Intervention Unit with Endovascular Vascular Surgery and Valve Surgery.
We have 8 + 5 intensive care places for post-operative care and cardio intensive care.Anaesthesia – Östergötland Care places at the division, 24 + 10.
We perform almost 800 cardiopulmonary interventions / year and we are Sweden's 4th largest centres in the field. In addition, about 600 vascular interventions are performed both openly and with endovascular technique. TEVAR and EVAR under strong development.
Reception activities in both Linköping and Norrköping.
Research permeates the activity. We have three professors, six docents, many PhD doctors and nurses and several PhD students in postgraduate education.
The clinic is in an expansive phase and a large waiting list. The medical results are good.
Of the 45 doctors there are about 15 Thoracic Anaesthesiologists. We are going to have a
generation shift within the next 2-5 years and do not have specialist doctors to fill with. This is explained by the fact that we have not had our own ST doctors, but relied on recruiting specialists. However, this has proved to be difficult to meet the need for customary recruitment, why we now also try recruitment abroad. We are primarily seeking specialists with experience in Thoracic Anesthesia but also specialists with good knowledge and skills in
Intensive Care are requested. Younger specialists with less experience in Thoracic Anesthesia and Thoracic Intensive Care can come to question if they are of great interest and want to focus on investing in education and research.
